Bryan Colangelo would not trade Oneal for Steph. #1 Steph does nothing to help them…#2 Jermaine is worth more to them next year as an expiring if they cant get anything more than expirings for him.

#3 and most important – Bryan is not trying to help a divisional foe who is going to try and rape him of his superstar.

Eureka, I knew it and called it here first, saw it coming an eon ago. Yeah buddy, like I said before we traded for a retiring heart failure, drafted a bulging disc and need a knee less for a running game now. Eureka, O’Neal is it! O’Neal can be our knee less wonder. Hey, we still have Nate to trade and the only thing missing now would be the head less wonder.

Your 2009 point is valid and maybe JO will like it in NY and still around for a discount to win a title. For the right price he could be a part of the future. Can we put him on the IR until April?

EZ you are right. Given that part of the plan is to “remain competitive”, it makes decent sense. If you want to ignore that part of the plan then the trade makes no sense.

The other thing to remember is that next year we don’t have a draft pick, so why not go balls out for the playoffs in 2009? Failing that, he’s a piece we can trade at the deadline next year to another team that wants cap room for the free agent bonanza. Maybe the Knicks can land a draft pick or something next year.

Strategically, I don’t understand the point of this deal, it accomplishes none of our long term goals. It makes us slighlty better in the near term, just good enough to negatively impact the 2009 draft position. In my opinion everything we do in 2009 should in some way prepare us in a positive way for 2010 – that is my litmus test for viable trade opportunities. Am I missing something big picture?

Yea. They’d basically be admitting that they are packing it in for the season. I don’t think that’s the message you want to send to Chris Bosh on the eve of his pending free agency. Just bloggin’.

Well, of course, I love it in theory. We get a solid defensive big with contract that expires before 2010. But it would entail Toronto basically acknowledging that this is a lost season for them. I’m not sure they’re ready to do that. Also, I wonder how much value cap space really has to Toronto. Could they convince any free agents to head north of the border? Not sure.
But obviously if the Knicks could get O’neal for Steph I think you do it in a nanosecond.
